This procedure only allows you to update the maps for Navigation, not the actual version of the MMI software. To my knowledge only a dealer can update that. I just updated my navigation maps over the weekend (A3 2015 Premium Plus with Nav) with the new 2017 maps that were released recently.

I'm having the same issues with my '18 SQ5. MMI won't download map updates. Will do everything else but that. On hold with Audi USA customer service right now to see if they can push the updates manually to my vehicle, or if there is a place I can go to download the updates to an SD card to install.
